James Haro is a Mexican-American singer/songwriter based in Philadelphia, PA. In his first ever EP release, debuting June 20, Haro’s evocative lyrics and raw vocals resonate with themes of self-discovery and resilience. Each track unfolds like a chapter in a deeply personal story, weaving together pop-punk energy and moments of vulnerability and empowerment. This E.P. invites listeners on a soul-stirring journey through poignant narratives and heartfelt melodies, from the haunting echoes of ‘gods’ to the introspective depths of ‘Verses’ and ‘City Terrace’. With a rich tapestry of musical influences and a penchant for concise yet powerful song crafting, Haro promises a release that transcends genres and offers a unique blend of nostalgia and personal resonance.

“Haro hops octaves easily, all while growling, howling, soaring through his anthemic lines.” -Martha Eies (née Martha Stuckey)

Haro began with three songs that were contemporaneously written to the events that inspired them. It revolves around a time around 2019 that has become a jumping off point for Haro in a personal and creative way. After a breakup around his birthday left him bereft, he found himself reflecting on the one night stands he had in order to attempt some healing, the spiritual symbols he encountered that were meant to escort him to a place of belonging, and the rivers that divide the land.

During an afternoon spent walking down a line of condo developments going up on Columbus Boulevard, Haro put a playlist of Rilo Kiley songs on shuffle and began scream singing the songs of heartbreak that included “A Man/Me/Then Jim” whose trumpets Haro references in his song ‘Verses’. The verses from those songs sung by frontwoman Jenny Lewis marked a powerful catharsis point for Haro. Of course, as well, Haro lifts up the importance of the themes and simple two word statement of permission given by the Rilo Kiley song “Go Ahead”, which became the title of Haro’s solo-show that premiered at the 2022 Philadelphia Fringe Festival in Old City and was selected to be presented as part of Cannonball Festival in 2023.

James Haro In Storage is a music project that began underground in a literal storage room in South Philadelphia during COVID-19 lockdown. Haro crafts music with a powerful blend of lyrics and musical arrangements, drawing comparisons to artists The Shins, Ben Lee, and Rilo Kiley. Haro has Mexican and Indigenous American roots and was born and raised in Los Angeles, now based in Philadelphia.

He has since released his debut single, Verses,” available now on all major music platforms.
