April is National Autism Acceptance Month, and Kids at Play (KAP), located in Roxborough, has recently launched its Autism Diagnosis Program. According to the CDC, nearly 1 in 36 children are diagnosed with autism by the age of 4, and National Autism Awareness Month helps serve as an occasion dedicated to raising awareness about autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and fostering acceptance and understanding for individuals with autism. As of March, Kids at Play’s Autism Diagnosis Program allows even more families to receive the diagnosis and care needed to help their children grow and thrive.

Now more than ever, parents in the Philadelphia area are experiencing difficulties receiving treatments and diagnoses for their children who may be on the Autism spectrum. To reduce the massive wait lists these individuals may experience, Kids at Play has stepped up to the plate to address this issue head-on. With a passion for timely and accurate assessments, program directors have opened up their autism diagnosis program to even more families by accepting several insurance plans, including Medicaid.

When a family registers to participate in Kids at Play’s autism diagnosis program, their child will be referred to one of the trained specialists for a comprehensive evaluation. This can include developmental history, standardized assessments, and observations. Based on the evaluation results, a diagnostic decision will be made, followed by feedback and recommendations for services tailored to the child’s needs, emphasizing ongoing monitoring and support at Kids at Play.

Newly diagnosed children will work with KAP’s certified specialists during therapy sessions and open play hours, ensuring that every child who goes through the program feels valued and included in the fun. Through their dedication to inclusivity and support, Kids at Play has created a space for play and a community where every child can thrive and enjoy the magic of childhood.

“With so many children and families waiting to receive the care and attention they need, it’s time to advocate for understanding and acceptance. Because of our initiative, families in Philadelphia will receive vital support, ensuring timely assessments and personalized care for children on the spectrum,” said Julia Bookbinder, Director of Operations at Kids at Play.

Kids at Play’s dedication to serving families in need illuminates hope and progress in the autism community. Through their tireless efforts, countless children will be able to receive the diagnosis and support they need to succeed.
